YOGA ASSOCIATION BRINGS HATHA YOGA TO RESIDENTS OF PRASLIN
The Yoga Association of Seychelles (YAS) with the participation of the National Sport Council (NSC) organized a three day program to enable the inhabitants of Praslin the opportunity to introduce themselves with Yoga and have the opportunity to practice it as well.
The sessions were held on Friday 19th to Sunday 21st April 2013 at the Judo Dojo next to Grand Anse playing field. Hatha Yoga is now very popular and has become a very common choice as a fitness exercise worldwide. Hatha yoga consists of various forms of ancient classic Yoga style to allow one to get fit and encourage a healthy mind and body at the same time.
Some specific benefits of practicing Hatha Yoga is that it cleanses tones, strengthens and rejuvenates the body, thereby keeping you fit, healthy and more vitalize. Controlling our breath can help improve oxygenation of the body and alleviate stress and diseases and calms the mind. Other elements of Hatha yoga also help with relaxing the body and reduce mental, physical and emotional ailments.
The participants were able to learn about the different poses in yoga know as asana consisting of basic exercises including breathing and a brief session of relaxation after an arduous workout.
Response from the participants was positive and they hope that the Association would come again. The National Sports Council is in the process to organizing monthly classes for Praslin and La Digue.
